Rookies

Rookies division tee ball

It all begins here! Rookies is the entry level division for players of Little League ages 5-6. (Find Little League age here: https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/.)  The experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child's love for the game. Rookies tee ball is a co-ed program at BRHLL.  The roster size averages 7-10 players, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week with a single game lasting no more than an hour played almost always on Saturday morning. After school ends, Rookies may play up to two games per week.  The late season schedule usually depends on the number of weather cancellations we have early in the season.

Priority 1: Have Fun!

Our main goal in Rookies is for your son or daughter to want to come back to play next year.  Hopefully they will have such a great experience meeting teammates, learning the game, and competing in a friendly way that they will be excited to return for Minors baseball and softball next season. We ask managers to emphasize teaching and having fun. All players bat each inning.  We do not keep score.

Equipment & Attire

Rookies players use bats and balls designated specifically for use in this division.  Players should have the following equipment for all practices and games:

  • Baseball/tee ball glove - provide their own
  • Most players will have their own tee ball bat, although the team/league should have a bat or two available
  • The team will have a couple of helmets for players to share, although most players will provide their own batting helmet for sanitary reasons (e.g., risk of lice, not wanting to share germs.)
  • Players should always wear long sweatpants or baseball pants and an athletic t-shirt or sweatshirt. Players can play in sneakers, though some will have cleats
  • Players will be provided a team shirt and hat for games by BRHLL

In addition to introducing players (and families) to BRHLL, Rookies is a great place to volunteer as a coach. Little League and BRHLL provides managers and coaches detailed support, including practice plans and development goals. In fact, Little League has developed a 10-week program for Rookies that is available to all coaches.

BRHLL Facilities

BRHLL fields are split into two locations.  We have three diamonds behind IPS School #55, where Haverford Avenue intersects with 54th Street.  Another set of three fields is at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, on the south side of 46th Street, across from Arsenal Park.

How to Register

Log in to (or create) your BRHLL account at the top right corner of this page, add your child as a player, and proceed with registering for one of the available programs. If no available programs appear, either registration for that program has closed or your child's league age does not fall in to one of our available programs. If you have questions or concerns, please contact [email protected].
